In fulfilling its mission “to acquire, preserve
and provide information of our national her-
itage,” the department is happy to release
another issue of its newsletter, FlashBack!

This issue focuses on what has become an
integral part of our lives from June to No-
vember each year—the threat of hurricanes.
Its aim is to ensure that our citizens, both
young and old, become aware of the devas-
tating effects that come with these natural
phenomena.

As we prepare for yet another
hurricane season, it is worthwhile to remem-
ber the major storms that have hit us: the
doubly-historic day of 10th September 1931,
Hattie in 1961 and more recently Richard
in 2010. Former Chief Meteorologist Ramon
Frutos offers a fascinating account of the his-
tory of hurricanes in Belize since 1906 in the
lead article, “Where History Comes Alive!”

To read about Hurricanes of Belize, visit our resource section. Also a copy of our Newsletter is available.

Keep enjoying our newsletter!
